Let's imagine this scene: I pick up this book in my hands and start reading it. The protagonist is a translator -Hey, I'm a translator! - and she is 27 - nooo, can't believe it! Me, too! - and she's afraid of love - I start looking around suspiciously because I'm starting to believe the author got his inspiration to write this book from me.

After checking there are no hidden cameras next to the laptop I usually work with on my translation, I let myself be overwhelmed by the book. 'Overwhelmed' is really the right word, because this novel sweep you up like a river, like a tidal wave of emotions, thoughts and words that almost make you drown.

The story is very simple: Meg is a translator who does not believe in love till she met, in her dreams, George, a man she felt attracted to for the way he thinks and speaks. She later finds out that those dialogues come from a book, La luna blu, by an English writer, Demian, now in a coma, and she decides to go visit him to try and sort things out and see if the man of her dreams can be real.

There are not many characters: Meg, her friend Meli, the man of the dreams, George and the writer Demian; I would have loved to know more about them, more about the plot, their lives, but the focus of the book is love; having the courage to love again and to face the consequences of love.

I admit I did have some problems with the book; from the very first pages the novel has a wide range of sentences and deep philosophical reflections, which are very interesting but slow down the pace at the expense of the plot, at times a bit confusing.

The writing is very evocative and, even if at some point I did find it a bit heavy for the endless sentences, I would lie if I said that those sentences didn't have an impact on me. There were passages to which I could really relate to and made the reading extremely fascinating.

The author's style isn't easy and is really peculiar; sometimes I got lost in the sentences and in the words, but I didn't mind losing myself in those deep reflections, because they gave me something to think about.

Despite the shortness of the book, it is not a novel to be taken lightly or to spend a couple of hours of mindless fun, because the story really gives food for thought and will make you think about a lot of things.

I was really happy to read this book, despite it wasn't among my smoothest reading; I really can't wait to read something else by this author.

Oh, and for records and for those who read it: I might have done like Meg. ;)

My favourite quote:
